If you wanting to turn on your ps2 without the power button ribbon using your controller it might be more convenient for you. This also might be an idea alternative for you if the actual button is broken or is not working. It depends on what firmware version you are on though.
1) Ensure the Sony PlayStation 2 console is plugged into the mains wall outlet. You should see a red standy by light come on.
2) Plug in the dualshock 2 controller into the first port.
3) Hold down the 'Triangle' 'Circle' and 'Start' for 3 seconds. The console will now turn on.
