1)Always check for rms wattage that match up to your speaker wattage never go by peak or max power ratings on all car audio products. Most car stereos or radios that are cheap for the money, usually produce around 25x4 rms watts to the four speaker channels not 50x4 or 45x4 output power.Car audio manufactures but in big bold letters 50x4 to make to make you think that the head unit has got lots of power but its just a marketing trick. Most car head units can not produce more then 30 watts of rms because there is not much space inside the head unit which results in overheating or noises cooling fans issues because of running too much power. So if you are wanting to run big watts then buying a external small amplifier to add to your speakers will be ideal.
Below is a Sony car head unit model MDX-CA790Xl that has fake wattage reading on the front removable face to tricking into you buying it making you think that you are getting pure 50 watts of power!!
2)When thinking of buying a car head unit make sure you check the reviews before buying it brand new or second hand.If it has lots of good reviews and comments that then indicates that the head unit is great.Keep on the look on forums or post a new forum thread and mention the brand and model of the head unit you are interesting and let others that are online post there comments and find out whats is there opinions.Don't worry about installing it into the dashboard leave it to the end,if you can't do it yourself then for a small fee the audio enthusiast can install it for you.
3)Go into a car audio shop before even thinking about buying a car head.Going to a car audio store is probably the best option because you can see a demo of the head unit working and tweak about with different settings like adjusting bass and treble and check the sound quality as well just remember to bring a cd of your choice to test it out.If your thinking about getting a car head unit for running a ipod or mp3 player using the aux cable then i suggest you check the specs of the head unit online to check if it has the features that you are looking for in your head unit.Ask nicely to the people that are working at the audio shop to help you decide which car head unit is the best or ask some helpful advice and tips.
