How To Fix a Fat PlayStation 2 That Won't Turn On

Through my experience of owning many Sony PlayStation 2 consoles, i have come across many sent for repairs that won't turn on, which is a common problem. If your experiencing problems with your ps2 that fails to power on, try the possible solutions below to fix it:

(These solutions are only for the older style fat ps2 console)

1)Check the fuse in the plug. Using a multimeter, check the fuse if its blown and if it is replace it.

2)Replace the power lead.

3)Dissemble the ps2 console and check if the eject and power ribbon cable is correctly in its socket. What tends to happen is it becomes loose and eventually comes out from the connector, therefore making your ps2 not turn on.

4)Check the fuses on the main board using a multimeter. If there is a fuse that is blown, replace it. You can locate the fuses on your ps2's main board, by looking at a ps2 fuse diagram, search for it in Google.

3)Dissemble the ps2 console and replace the fuse on the power supply board. Many people are not aware of this fuse and give up because the fuse is ok in the plug. There are chances that your ps2 won't turn on because of a blown fuse on the power supply board, so its recommend to locate it and check if its burned out.

4)If the fuse is fine on the power supply board, then order a replacement power supply board and replace it with the old board.

5)If all 4 solutions don't solve this problem, i would simply buy a new replacement ps2, as they are cheap to buy used anyways.
