When it comes to car audio, price always equals sound quality and reliability. Good sounding car audio from big brands like Jl audio and Rockford Fosgate will be more expensive to buy than car audio products from Sony Xplod or Jbl. This is because the engineering and the quality of the product is much better. If you don't want to spend hundreds of pounds on a good sounding subwoofer, then i would consider you the 'Kicker C124 12 inch competition subwoofer'. That subwoofer produces loud bass that you can feel, thanks to the large 12 inch cone, i know this because i saw it in a car audio shop and i could actually feel the bass on my chest, no joke! It also has a ribbed foam surround, this basically means when you crank up the volume loud, the surround will not tear, which is a common with cheap Sony Xplod subs. This subwoofer can also take a whopping 150 watts rms from a car amplifier, which is plenty of power for the sub to pick up the low frequencies.
The Kicker can also be placed in two recommend types of box enclosures, if you want tight, accurate and less boomy bass, then i recommend a sealed box. If you want it to pound the lows and perform loud, then definitely a ported enclosure tuned to 34Hz will be perfect. Overall, it is a good sub that sounds the best for £100, that is my option, Don't buy the Sony Xplod subwoofer because it says '1000 watts' on the dust cap, that is not the real power rating, that is peak! Buy a Kicker 12 inch c124 instead, once setup up right, you will be pleased with the bass performance:)
