How To Install PS2 Hard Drive HDD Using Network Adapter

You can fit a hard drive into your PS2 console to install games and game saves on it. The advantage of playing the games off the hard drive is that loading times will be faster and the laser doesn't get used at all. This will help prolong the lifespan of the disc drive in your fat style PlayStation 2 console. The hard drive connects with a network adapter and fits into the expansion bay, which is found at the back of the console. Only IDE hard drives will work with the PS2 console to due to its age. You can't connect a sata hard drive because it doesn't have a sata port for connectivity.

1) You will need to purchase an official Sony network adapter, without it you can't connect it. This is because the HDD connects onto the network adapter before it goes into the console. Plus you get to play online with having the network adapter, so you can't wrong either way.

2) Look at the rear of the PS2 console. You will see a plastic cover that says 'Expansion Bay'. You will need to pry this cover out using your finger nail. Once you have removed it, you will see a long slot that goes all the way down to the front side of the PlayStation 2.

3) Line up the hard drive with IDE and power sockets on the network adapter and push downwards. This will connect the pins found on the hard drive into the appropriate sockets found on the network adapter.

4) Once you have done that, slide the hard drive into the expansion bay slot, until the network adapter is connected to the connections on the back of your PS2. Then tighten both screws found at the back, to secure the network adapter in place and prevent it from moving around.
