Can the terminal cups used on subwoofer enclosures melt?
A terminal cup is fitted into a subwoofer enclosure, to make connecting and disconnecting it from the amplifier much more easier, as all you have to do is unscrew the terminals and slip in or out the speaker wires and screw them back up. But there are known to cause leaks in a enclosure, if they are not sealed up correctly around the edges, as air can escape easily out, therefore reducing sound quality. A terminal cup is made out of cheap plastic, they can't really handle high current and amperage from large speaker wires, so they simply melt away, but it depends on how much power you are running to you subwoofer. In general, if you a pushing more than 2000 watts rms, to your subwoofer using terminals cups, they will melt. If you're only running small amplifier power, like 300 rms to the subwoofer, there will not be enough current and amperage to melt the plastic, so it won't melt.
