How To Fix Sound Crackling Headphones

If you experience crackling, when you are using your pair of headphones to listen to music using your ipod, it can't totally destroy your listening experience, especially if you are an audiophile. The crackling noise is high likely to be heard because of hairs trapped inside the headphone speaker drivers. When the speaker cone moves, the hair will vibrate on the cone and will create a crackling sound to be heard. So what you need to do is to remove the hairs or any dust from the drivers and the problem should no longer occur.

Instructions

1) Connect your headphones to your ipod or any other music device that can power them and send input signal to them.

2) Once you have done that, play a song that you can hear crackling sounds on, using your headphones and turn the volume level loud enough to be heard, when the headphones are placed down. This is so you can tell if you find hairs and remove them, if the crackling problem goes away, without having to wear them.

3) Look inside the ear cup, looking at the material placed onto on the headphone driver in direct sunlight, or in any other well lighted location and get a pair of tweezers ready. Look at the material cloth that is placed in front on the driver. Look for any small hairs caught on the cloth, if you see some, remove them gently with your tweezers carefully, as you don't want to rip the cloth material. Repeat this for the other side.

4) Also get a can of compressed air and give the drivers a quick blast of fresh air. This will blow out any missed hairs you couldn't see and remove dust placed on the drivers.

If you notice that the drivers are still make a crackling sound after you have done the above, then they are damaged. Usually it is because of clipping them for a long period of time, which eventually makes the voice coil become detached from the cone, causing the crackling sound to be heard. So the only way is to get the headphones replaced, if they still have a guarantee, or buy a new pair of headphones.
