Using your portable minidisc player daily will cause the laser lens inside the mechanism to become dusty. If this actually does occur to your device, it will cause problems reading the information from your inserted minidisc cassette. You will eventually notice this when it takes longer than usual for your music to play, frequently skipping or disc rear errors. Due to the way of the design, they are less prone than CD's to get damaged from scratches. So you probably need to give your mini disc player a quick clean inside to make it perform to its optimal level. I would highly recommend that you try this before replacing it with a brand new laser.
1) Power off the minidisc player.
2) Press down the eject button to open up the flap and remove inserted disc.
3) Once removed, have a look inside the drive mechanism for a blue color lens. This is the component that reads data from the disc.
4) Get a cleaning liquid such as rubbing alcohol and place a drop onto the end of a cotton bud.
5) Gently with extra care, rub the solution onto the blue laser lens. This will remove any dust that is present as part of maintenance.
