How to fix a turbo that has a loud whistling noise

Turbo chargers in many vehicles such as cars and trucks have a whistling or whine noise when the turbo charger spools up and kicks in above the between the 2500 - 3000 rmp rev range when accelerating. The whistle can be annyoing for some and good for others and is common in all turbo cars and other vechiles. In fact some people like the idea of turbo whistling and buy a aluminum device that fits in there exhaust that makes and produces a fake spool up noise that a turbo charged car has.

This guide which is below should help quite down or a permanent fix and put a stop to your noisy turbo charger.

1)Check your boost gauge pressure which is measured in psi that's if you have one fitted.Find out from your local car technician first how much boost your car is running  and then head over to your car and check the boost on full throttle does it match the boost settings that your cars is running and programed to? If its not it means your likely to damage and cause failure to your turbo due to over boosting and heat up which basically means your running more boost than what is recommended.Sometimes it could be a faulty bad wastegate that makes the turbo produce more boost under load.

2)If you have a boost controller installed then make sure you make a note of the original boost setting that is recommend to be set up to.Sometimes what happens is people tend to increase the boost manually by adjusting the control on the boost controller and thinking they are going to get more power out of there engine or produce more bhp or torque well the answer is NO!.A general rule is the more the boost the more the noise because the turbine blades know as a propela will spin faster. So back the boost a little bit and you should reduce noise pollution from your turbo's side. Also try replacing your boost controller with either from blitz, apexi, dsm, turbosmart, hdi and gizzmo because it could be faulty and give wrong boost settings to your ecu.

3)Get a brand new turbo kit and make sure it is from good leading brands from big suppliers such as from hks, turbo techics or garrette. This brands should never give you problems and hassle.Turbo's can't really last forever and need replacing or needed reconditioning around about every 67,000 miles for max performance.I suggest if are a short of cash head to your local car garage first before buying a new or used turbo because it maybe repairable with second hand used parts and its possible it could be cheap to fix.

4)Check for any boost leaks in pipes that are connected or related to the turbo such as intercooler piping and the in the vacuum line.Take your time while inspected, you never know you could miss the leak keep your eyes peeled for any crack's or hole's.If you have a petrol engined car the way to tell if you have a leak is by but your foot down on the foot pedal, if you see any smoke from the rich condition then its 100% a boost leakage. As for diesel engines leaks show up while your engine is under boost in the form of economy, sudden powerless and lag and more than normal smoke which comes from the overfueling condition area results in bad boosting. The most common car to have leaks are Toyota supra's and mr2 according to statics.
