How to check and test the polarity on a car speaker

Checking the polarity on your car speaker or subwoofer is important because if you cross wire the connections you will loose sound quality. Some car speaker don't show the negative (-) and positive (+) symbols on the terminals, which can make you wire the polarity on the incorrectly. Your car speakers can also get damaged if you mix up the polarity the wrong way round. It is 100% vital you test polarity for speaker wire before hooking up your speakers to your amplifier, as i explain how below:

1)Remove all the wires that are connected to your speaker as they are unnecessary during this test.

2)Next get a brand new 9 volt square battery and get a cheap battery snap. A battery snap holds battery in place making things much easier.

3)Connect your battery to the battery snap.

4)You will notice on the battery snap positive (red color) and negative (black color) connections. Connect the positive and negative battery snap connections to the speaker terminals. This is by twisting the wires braid around the speaker terminals.

5)If you notice the car speaker cone is moving out and in, it indicates that the speaker polarity is correct. The way you wired up the negative and positive from the battery snap to the car speaker, do the exact same for the speaker wire. If you see the cone moving in first and out second the polarity is incorrect, so switch the battery snap wires the other way round.
