How to tune the gain control setting on your car amplifier

If your car amplifier starts to distort at high volume, you might need to tweak and fine tune the gain control on your amp. Setting the gain correctly on your car amp, will always have a effect on sound quality produce by your speakers and subwoofers. If the gain is set to high, it will cause the amplifier to overheat, which can damage the components inside it and of course it will cause distortion, which can damage the voice coils in the speakers. If the gain is set too low, you amplifier may not be working at its optimal sound performance.

Instructions on how to set the gain control on your car amplifier:

1)Locate your car amplifier and find the gain control on the amp. Once you have found the gain control, turn it down to the lowest gain level, you may require a flat head screwdriver to make that adjustment. Once you have turned down the gain control all the way down, to the lowest setting, then get access to your car head unit.

2)Power on your car stereo, then insert a music CD that contains crystal clear treble and bass frequencies.Don't insert a CB that has bass boosted songs, as the are already distortion in them, that can make the gain tuning on your car amplifier inaccurate.

3)Choose a track and adjust the volume on your car head unit to a volume level that is most suited, a volume level you find loud enough. Get back to your amplifier and slowly increase the gain control and stop increase it as soon as you hear any distortion. If you adjusted the gain to high, turn back the gain until you no longer hear any distortion.
