When the psp console left the manufacturers the processor was underclocked at 222 MHz, which sucks! The reason why Sony underclocked the psp was to save battery life. Well thanks to custom firmware, you can achieve the original CPU speed Sony had in mind. Many people say clocking the psp to 333 MHz is overclocking and it is! Don't try this on a psp running official firmware because it will not work and just to let you know this works on the following models: 1000, 2000 and 3000 not go!
Instructions on how to increase the clock speed:
1)Turn on your psp console and hold the select menu.
2)Once once you have pressed the select button, a secret menu will come up, like in the image below:
3)You will see in the menu your current stock game cpu speed and the xmb speed. Now what you have to do is increase the speed to 333 MHz on both game and xmb settings. Once you have done that, go down to exit on the list and exit the menu.
4)That is it you have successfully made you psp run smoother and faster, by tweaking up the CPU speed. Increasing the CPU speed will help to reduce long loading times and increase the frame rates in many games that take lots of memory up on the onboard ram.
