A fire alarm is mounted in various locations in your house and they have the responsibility to monitor the environment 24/7. If there is actually a fire taking place, the sensor will pick up the smoke and will alert you with siren sound. This will make you aware that there is a fire and you can immediately take action.
If you installed a smoke alarm in your house and the siren keeps making either a constant beeping or chirping sound every 30 seconds, then the smoke alarm itself needs a service. If your smoke alarm is a battery powered, i strongly suggest you don't remove the battery from it. Yes, it will permanently stop the beeping or chirping sound, but the smoke alarm will no longer be functional and your life could be at risk if a fire does actually break out in your home.
1) You will need to replace the current battery in the smoke alarm with a brand new battery of the same size, usually it is a 9V square battery. This is because the smoke alarm makes chirp sounds to inform you that the battery is on its way out and needs replacing. Try to avoid them kind of batteries from cheap manufactures like powercell, they offer more batteries for less, but the battery life doesn't last long as it should. This is because they are cheaply made and you would probably be replacing the battery again after 4 weeks of use.
2) You will need to open the smoke alarm. No tools such as screwdrivers are required, simply pull the smoke alarm hatch down. Then locate the battery inside the smoke alarm, remove it and dispose it into a bin.
3) Get your new battery and insert it into the battery holder, ensuring that the battery is inserted the correct way. If the battery is fitted into the smoke alarm with reverse polarity, + and - the wrong way around, then the battery won't provide power to it and the smoke alarm will not function.
4) Once the battery has been installed correctly, close the smoke alarm hatch. To ensure that the new battery fitted into the smoke alarm is providing power, test the smoke alarm by pressing the red color 'TEST' button on it. If the smoke alarm is working, it will make a beeping or chirping sound for about 10 seconds.
