Microsoft has released the official chatpad, a keyboard attachment that you connect directly onto the Xbox 360 controller. With using a chatpad, you no longer need to use the buttons found on the Xbox 360 controller, you use the keys on the chatpad to type. This product has many great online reviews simply because it makes text input quicker and easier when messaging friends on Xbox live and redeeming Microsoft points codes from scratchcards. The chatpad is available to purchase in black and white colors, so you can have a chatpad that matches the color of your Xbox 360 controller. The chatpad is also compatible with both wired and wireless types of Xbox 360 controllers.
Instructions on how to connect your chatpad to a Xbox 360 controller
1) If the Xbox 360 controller is powered on, you will need to turn it off. This is ideal because you don't want random keys on the chatpad being entered and being sent to your friends on Xbox live.
2) The chatpad will need to be installed at the bottom of the controller. So get the Xbox 360 controller and align the chatpad's connector plug with the socket used for a headset.
3) Holding the Xbox 360 controller, push the chatpad in the upwards directions, until it snaps together with the controller. Once it is snapped in, you will hear a click sound, this means that the chatpad is locked in and connected.
4) To test if the chatpad is working, power on your Xbox 360 controller. If the backlight on the chatpad lights up the keys, then it is functional. If no backlight is seen, the chatpad is not working, so ensure that the chatpad is properly connected into the controller by pushing it further in. If that doesn't work, then remove the chatapad and reinsert it back onto the controller.
5) If you use a headset to talk to friends on Xbox live, then there is a socket found on the bottom of the chatpad, so you can still use it. So plug the headset jack into the headset socket when you want to use it.
