How To Open & Take Apart Sony PS2 Memory Card / PS2 Memory Card Disassembly

The Sony PlayStation 2 console uses a memory card to store game save data you have created from playing games. Once the game save data has been saved onto your PS2 8mb memory card, you can then retrieve it easily by loading them from the games menu. Once loaded, you can continue where you have left of previously in the game and progress further. Sometimes the Sony PS2 memory can become faulty and problematic because when inserted into the console it will not be recognized. This problem usually occurs because the memory card needs to be cleaned internally, due to dust and dirt causing bad electrical connections. So you might find the disassembly instructions that are provided below helpful to help you take apart your PS2 memory successfully.

1) Remove the PS2 memory card from the 'Memory Card' slot it is currently inserted into. This is by gripping the bottom part of the memory card with your hand and pulling it outwards.

2) The PS2 memory is held together by two small sized 'Philips Head Screws'. So obtain a small sized 'Philips' head screwdriver, so you can remove both screws. Now turn the 'Memory Card' upside down, so the label is facing downwards.

3) You will see two small sized 'Philips Head 'Screws' positioned at the top 'Left' and 'Right' corners. So using your 'Screwdriver', unscrew both screws and place them in a location where they can't be misplaced.

4) Then using your fingers, grab both the bottom and top sides of the memory card and pull them apart from each other. If it has never been opened before, it will not open just like that. So use a 'Flat' head screwdriver and insert the flat head into the small 'Seam' found in the middle of the split. Then gradually push the screwdriver upwards and downwards to separate both parts. This will disassemble the memory card into two separate parts, the bottom part is where the circuit board is positioned in.

5) You can also remove the circuit board from the bottom part of the memory card. This is by using the 'Flat' head screwdriver, find a corner, place it underneath the circuit board, push it upwards and it will gradually remove itself from plastic.
