An equalizer can be used to enhance sound quality in certain types of music you listen to. The Sony PSP console has its own preset equalizer software, which allows you to change the equalizer type to your liking. Unfortunately, you can't manually add your own customized EQ settings and use them. Still it contains many different types of presets, including 'Pop', 'Rock' and 'Jazz', that you can play around with. The equalizer is only enabled, when you plug in either a pair of headphones or portable speakers. So you can't change the equalizer settings, when using the integrated speakers in the PSP console for sound playback.
1) Flick the 'Power' switch on your PSP console to switch it on.
2) Then from the 'XMB' menu go into 'Music', go into the 'Memory Card' and select a music file of your choice.
3) Plug in either your earphones or external speakers into the 3.5mm jack found at the bottom. The music player will be playing your selected music and because you have plugged something into it, it will also enable the equalizer settings. Press the button with the 'Sound Icon', next to the select button, to set different EQ settings.
