How To Charge PSP Through Using Via a USB Cable

Can I Charge My PSP With a USB Cable?

There are two possible ways to charge the battery pack inside your PSP console. The most common way, is using a wall socket charger that is supplied with your console. This is the most convenient way and the fastest to charge up your PSP, if you have access to a wall socket all the time. The other method is to use a USB cable, connect your PSP to your computer and charge it that way. You can charge the PSP via USB because the port can provide 5 volts to charge up the battery pack. Please be fully aware that this only works on the 2000 + slimline models. I have tested it on the 1000 fat style models and it doesn't work, due to older technology used on the circuit board.

How To Charge a PSP Without a Charger

1) Connecting the USB cable from the PSP console to your computer. The USB cable will have two plugs, a regular USB port plug and a mini USB port plug. Look at the top of your PSP slim console, you will see a 'Mini' USB socket placed at the top in the middle. So get a USB cable and connect the 'Mini' USB plug into the 'Mini' USB socket found on the console.

2) Connecting the console to the computer. On the other end of the 'USB' cable, you will see a regular sized 'USB Plug'. The same size and shape of a USB plug found on a mouse or keyboard. Connect the 'USB Plug' into any available 'USB Port' on your computer. You will usually find some at the front panel or at the rear of the PC tower.

3) Enabling USB mode on the PSP. From the 'XMB', go to 'Settings' and select 'USB Connection'. The console will enter 'USB Mode' and will connect to your PC. During this, the PSP will obtain power from the USB port and charge up the battery pack inside the PSP console. You will notice that the 'Power' LED indicator will change from 'Green' to 'Orange'. This will show you that it is charging.
