If your car stereo fails to power on, you should always check if the fuse is burnt out. This is because if the fuse is burnt out, it will prevent any power going into the radio. The wire inside the fuse will be snapped into two halfs, breaking the electrical connection. It is not difficult at all to replace and do it yourself. All you to do is locate, remove the blown fuse and replace it will a brand new one. Please make sure that you use a fuse of the same amps of the blown fuse. The amps of the new fuse have to be exactly the same for the fuse to work. If the fuse is too little or too high in amps, the fuse will not function and will not protect your headunit from blowing up in the future.
1) To start off with, remove the plastic trim that goes around the front removable faceplate. This is by gripping it with both hands from each side and pulling it towards you.
2) Your car headunit will be held in place by two metal clips on each side if its aftermarket. Get hold of two flat head screwdrivers and insert them both into each side of the stereo. Push the screwdrivers in the opposite direction, so that they push the clips in and pop the radio out.
3) Now that the headunit is removed completely from the din slot, you will need to locate the location of the fuse. It is either fitted onto the back of the stereo, or inside a plastic inline fuse holder attached onto the 'Red' color power wire.
4) Remove the fuse from its holder. Examine the fuse in direct sunlight to see if the wire is blown out. If it is broken and there burns marks around the plastic, it is a good indication that its burnt out. So replace it with a brand new fuse that is rated at the same amps and the problem should be resolved.
