If you are going to an important meeting or going sleep, the last thing you want is your Nokia phone to ring when getting an incoming message or ringtone. You can place your Nokia phone into silent mode when you don't want the speaker to play a sound. These instructions apply only for the older style Nokia phones made around 2005-2007 to place it into silent mode. I believe the procedure is different on the newer style lumia phones.
1) Click the Power button on the top of the
phone, when the phone is powered on.
2) There will be a list of options.
3) Below switch off there will be on profile
called 'Silent', select that with your keypad.
4) Your Nokia phone will now be placed into silent
mode.
5) If you want to go back into ringtone mode,
then repeat the same process but instead select the 'General' profile.
