Some people say that there subwoofer is too boomy and loud. This can be caused by many things and reasons why you don't get the bass you are looking for.If you sub's are boomy then hopefully this guide will help to reduce it and get better sound quality.Your subs are boomy because box of the tuning that is tuned to.Check your manufactures manuals, and see if there any specifications regarding about what hz your sub is tuned at.Generally if your woofers are above 45-hz then you can not change the boomyness. This is because the box is tuned for spl which means loudness. So you will not get deep, great sound quality bass output. So either stick with the boomer sub or by a new system. If your subs are tuned in the range between 30-35hz than your subs are not the problem.
Next up try placing the sub in a different position on angle of the room its placed in.For car audio try facing the subs backwards facing the rear of the boot.Experiment with different positions, some may give better bass reflection than others. Also check the amp that powers the subs up,check all the wiring is correct.Check the tuning on the amp,it should match the same tuning for your enclosure spec and design.Check your sub woofer's box see if there is any air leaks that you can spot.Just to make sure everything is air tight, run over the joints with some silicon.Air leak's is one reason why it could be boomy. So give it a try, some subwoofer boxes that you buy second hand have loads of air leaks ,so double check that.
As for car audio, building a new design enclosure will certainly help you get rid of that boomy bass sound.I suggest that you build a sealed enclosure. As sealed gives the best sound quality and reduces the chance of boomyness that your get from a basspass or ported box.For home audio i suggest looking on the internet for some decent system's that are tuned around to 33hz.There are many woofers that are placed in the wrong type of boxes, this mostly happens with premade boxes. Some people just stick a sub in a premade sub box that does not match the specs for the particular sub.Never buy premade boxes, unless you no what they tuned up for,i no that all the work is done,no mess etc... but finding out what the box is tuned for is vital for good performance.
