How Safe Is It If I Remap a ECU With My Own Laptop & Software?

Ecu remapping is a great way to gain more horsepower and torque from your car, especially if you have modified your car engine, mods such as adding a performance exhaust system and a cold air intake. Ecu remapping is usually a safe process for experts, which involves removing the old mapping and replacing it will a new modified map that is tweaked up. Getting a ecu remap applied to your car is best if you get it done by a professional, as they will have more knowledge on what adjustments should be made and how the modified ecu remap will get transferred onto the ecu unit, without having any problems to occur during this process. A professional that remaps ecus daily, will have more experience on how much boost should be increased and adjusting the optimal fuel timings etc. You can remap a car ecu yourself, all you need is a laptop and some cables, but many people that have, never get there car started after they flashed their doggy remap on their car's ecu unit. I recommend you don't download free ecu remap software and remap your car's ecu yourself because you can cause some serious software damaged to it, which can expensive to fix, but this can only happen if you don't know what you are doing and don't have the correct equipment. If you have past experience on how to remap a ecu unit and you have worked for a garage that did them, then you should be all right. So don't worry if i were you, i would prefer you to let the experts remap the ecu for you, if you want to be on the safe side and get extra performance!
