How To Clean The Head On a Cassette/Tape Player, Using a Head Cleaner

If you get a hissing sound, when your are playing a cassette, through your speakers, there is a likely chance that the head inside the tape player has become dirty. The head can become dirty because you might have inserted old, dusty cassettes into the tape player, causing the dirt on the film to transfer dust onto the head. If the head on your tape player is dirty, then purchase a head cleaner kit. Most kits contain a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a cassette. Once you have bought the kit, follow the instructions provided below:

1)Remove your cassette from the tape player, this can be done by pressing the eject button and using your fingers to remove the cassette out.

2)Open the head cleaner kit packet and get the cleaning liquid solution, it will be in a small bottle.

3)Get a small pin, unscrew the cap and use it to poke a small hole into the top of the bottle.

4)Now get the head cleaner cassette, at the top of it, you will notice a white film, what you need to do is pour the solution on it.

5)Insert the head cleaner cassette into the tape player and let it rewind for 30 seconds and then forward for 30 seconds. While the cassette is forwarding and then rewinding, the film is cleaning the head.

6)Once the clean process it completed, insert your normal music cassette into the tape player and test if the noise is gone. If you can still hear some hissing, apply steps 4 and 5 again.
