If the PS2 memory card slot is not working on your console, you can't save your progress made in games. Before you jump to any conclusion, you should try it on another console because the memory card itself could be faulty and not the slots.
1) Remove any memory cards from slot 1 and 2 that are not found.
2) Push down the flap, get a can of compressed air and using it directly blow inside it. The rush of air will blast off any dust or dirt on the metal pins inside which you can't see or reach to. Remember to do the same for the other side.
3) Reattempt to see if the console can now recognize the memory card that it wont read before.
