Unless you have an direct internet connection, you might want to bypass the activation for your deactivate key. This method works and has been tested on both home edition and professional. 1) Press F8 on keyboard to boot into safe mode.
2) Select the normal 'Safe Mode' option on screen and hit enter.
3) Then select 'Run'. Type in 'CMD' to open up command prompt. Its a black box with a flashing cursor that allows you to enter information into the PC.

rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk
5) Press enter and wait for about 5 seconds.
6) Then reboot Windows and log into your account as normal. You have now bypassed the activation on the Windows XP software.
