You have got your nice set of 6x9 speakers you have cut the holes in the parcel shelf and you have a small 2 channel amplifier and a ready to install them but you don't know how much gauge speaker wire is needed to hook them up?Well 6x9 speakers are usually can produce around 100 rms,meaning they are not powerful as subwoofers and 2 channel car amps usually produce 100 watts rms x 2 channel rms,so you do not need to buy big,thick speaker wire.The speaker wire size that most audio enthusiasts recommend is around about 20 - 25 gauge that is oxygen free.The good news is the smaller the gauge of the speaker wire the more cheaper it is!Also make sure you don't by silver wiring because that gives really poor sound quality.
If you are running the set of 6x9's using from a car head unit then there is no need to rewire the whole speaker wiring to a power output signal out to them.Leave the stock wiring that came with the stock paper cone speakers alone.This is because in general most car head units can only produce around 25 watts rms x 4 channels max and that is not a lot of power to burn out stock wiring.So what i am trying to say to you people is that running your 6x9 using a aftermarket car head unit from stock wiring is fine and will sure satisfy you.
