How to prevent a car subwoofer from overheating!

If a car subwoofer overheats, it can cause the voice coil to burn out at any moment. Although you can repair the subwoofer, by ordering a recone kit and replace the burned out voice coil yourself. You can tell if your sub is overheating, by placing your hand on the magnet. If it feels more warmer than usual, it clearly indicates it is suffering from heat. If your car subwoofer is overheating, its not normal and its not safe! Still there are some tips and solutions to help keep your woofers happy and bring it down to a cool temperature!

1)If you are concerned about your subwoofer suffering from overheating, then increase and raise the ohm load impedance. If you bridged you amplifier, then un bridge or increase the ohm load. The more lower the ohm load of the sub, the more strain is put on the voice coil and the car audio amplifier. So i recommend you increase your final ohm load to a sensible 4 ohm load or above.

2)Open you back rear seats in your car. Doing this will sure help the air ventilation to circulate around the car subwoofer enclosure. Doing this will let out the trapped heat in the car's trunk to escape out, therefore reducing the chances of your car subwoofer from overheating.

3)If your subwoofer is installed in a sealed type of enclosure, replace it with a ported box. I recommend this because in a sealed box the car subwoofer magnet has no air to breath. But with a vented box, the port brings in cold air and pushes out the hot air which is inside the sub box. Which results in getting rid of the hot air inside the sub box.

4)Don't use your car subwoofer during warm, sunny weather. Warm weather makes the subwoofer temperature increase and doubles the chances of overheating to occur.
