How to fix and reduce port noise on a subwoofer enclosure

A ported subwoofer enclosure, if not build correctly can have port noise, which can totally destroy sound quality. The cause why port noise happens is because the area of the port is too small and it causes air turbulence. Air turbulence can often occur, when the air is escaping too quickly back and forward through the port.

Possible solutions that can fix or reduce excessive port noise:

1)Increase the size of the port's diameter and length, can help get rid of it. The more port area the more the air can escape out of the subwoofer enclosure, with ease. When you adjusting your port diameter or length, you may adjust the hz tuning of your box.

2)Ditch the square port and replace it with a circle port. A fact is a square port design can cause more port noise than a circle shaped port.

3)Reduce the power output of you car's amplifier, simply by turning down the gain on the amp itself. Doing this can help minimise port noise, although you will have to sacrifice spl, but its you own choice.
