The first generation PS3 has a mains power switch located at the rear of the console. This allows you to disconnect the power it obtains from the wall socket, when switched in the off position. This can provide many benefits including less electricity being consumed, saving you money on your utilities bills. Unfortunately, the newer PS3 slim model didn't have a mains power switch built into it. This is because Sony tried to save production costs, so they can price the console at a lower price for their consumers. Since there is a lot of demand for this feature, a switch adapter modification has now been created. You can purchase this switch adapter online and connect it to your console to add a functional mains power switch.
1) Remove the power cord plug from the wall socket and switch it off. You don't want live power going down the power cord when handling it. If you do, you are putting yourself in the risk of getting an electrical shock.
2) Look at the rear of your console and locate the socket the power cord goes into. Then remove the power cord from its power supply socket found on the console.
3) Then obtain the 'PS3 slim power switch adapter' and fit it into the power supply socket on the PS3 console. Then insert the power cord into the back of the power switch adapter. You can now use the power switch adapter to shut of the power from the mains. All without having to unplug the console directly from the wall socket.
