You can insert a PlayStation 2 memory card into your console to save your current progress made in games. Official PS2 memory cards are 8mb, but if you're after more storage capacity you can get up to 64mb from third party manufacturers. When you save during a game, it will create game save data and will store it onto a free block on the memory card. If you want to make a backup of your important game save or transfer a save over onto your friend's memory card, you can simply copy it over. When you copy a game save over, the original data will still remain on the main memory card and is also usable.
1) Insert the Memory card you want to copy game data onto into the 'Memory Card Slot 2'. Press the 'Power' button on the front of the PS2 console to switch it on.
2) Then press the 'Eject' button and remove any game disc that is inserted. Press the 'Power' button to reset the console, it will now boot up without the game starting.
3) Highlight and select the 'Browser' option displayed onscreen on your TV. You will now see two cartoon memory card icons appear onscreen in the menu. Locate 'Memory card 1' and Press 'X' to access it.
4) You will see all your game save data appear onscreen, they will all be represented by different game icons. Select the game save you want to copy over, followed by selecting the 'Copy' option. It will now ask you to confirm that you want to copy it onto 'Memory card 2' select 'Yes'.
5) It will then proceed with copying all of the game save data files you have selected onto the second memory card. During the transfer, don't remove the memory card from the console because it can cause it to get corrupted and cause interruption.
