If you are lucky enough to own a first generation PlayStation 3 console, you can play your old PS2 games on it. This means you don't have to own a separate original PS2 console to play them on. The older PS3 consoles have the PS2 hardware integrated into them, such as the emotion engine chip. The newer PS3 slim models don't have backwards compatibility with older PS2 games to save developing costs. If you are using a HD television, you can enable the upscale feature to achieve better resolution in PlayStation 2 games. This will add more detail into the games and will make the graphics appear better than they would on a normal PS2 console.
1) Press the 'Power' button on the front of the PS3 console to turn it on.
2) From the 'XMB' menu, go to 'Settings' > 'Game Settings'.
3) Select the 'PS/PS2 Upscaling' option and set it to 'Full Screen'. This will upscale the video signal sent to your HD television right up to 1080p when playing PlayStation 2 games. This making the graphics appear more detailed onscreen.
