Terminals cups are used on subwoofer enclosures to make it easier to connect the speaker wires from the amplifier to the subwoofer. Not only does it provide straightforward connectivity, it also makes the enclosure look tidy and professional because there is no messy wiring hanging out. Overtime, the terminals cups can become faulty. They can melt, due to excessive heat if you listen to your stereo loud daily or the terminals posts can break off. If you want to replace the speaker terminals, all you need is a brand new quality replacement, the rest involves you fitting it.
1) The speaker terminal that is currently fitted into your sub box will be held in place by four screws. The type of screws will be 'Philips' and will be inserted into each of the four corners of the terminal cup. So get out your Philips head screwdriver and remove all four inserted screws.
2) Place a 'Flat' head screwdriver into one side of the terminal cup and pry it out upwards.
3) Once removed, you will see two metal 'Spade' connectors attached onto the speaker wire, connected to the rear of the terminal cup. Slip of both spade connectors attached onto the back of the terminal cup. Now that faulty terminal cup is removed, obtain your brand new replacement.
4) Connect the spade terminals onto the rear of the new terminal cup, with the polarity the correct way round. Then place the terminal cup back into the cut out hole in the speaker box and place each of the four screws into their screw holes. Now all you need to do is, get your screwdriver and screw all four screws tight.
