All audio interfaces have a built in amplifier, but sometimes you require more than what the amp is capable of. Connecting a headphone amplifier to your audio interface will provide you with many benefits, including better sound quality and more output at higher volume levels. It is a straight forward process to connect your headphone amplifier to your audio interface. All you require is a double ended 3.5mm patch lead. This cable should be supplied with your amp. If it is not, you can purchase it dirt cheap from Ebay or Amazon.
1) Locate the headphone socket on your audio interface. You are looking for the socket that you use to plug in your headphones into. It will be located on the front and will be labeled as 'Headphone' socket, with a headphone logo above it.
2) Obtain your patch cable and connect one end of the '3.5mm' jack into the 'Headphone' Socket. This connection will provide the input signal for the headphone amp.
3) Then connect the '3.5mm' jack at the other end of the cable, into the 'Input' socket found on the headphone amplifier.
4) Now that you have made the connections between the audio interface and the headphone amplifier, you are ready to connect your pair of headphones to it. The headphone amplifier will have an 'Output' socket, you plug in the headphones '3.5mm' jack into it.
5) Now that you're all setup, power on your audio interface and place the volume level maximum, before distortion. Then switch on your headphone amp and adjust the volume level accordingly from there.
