Tweeters are used in audio to produce the higher end of the sound frequencies and increase the clarity in treble. They are used with a combination of a mid range and subwoofer driver to provide an equal balance of different sounds. In the middle of the cone, a small circular shaped paper dome is placed. This is to prevent dirt entering into the internal voice coil and damaging it mechanically. If you dented the dome due to an accident that has happened with a screwdriver, you can restore it back to its original shape and repair it yourself at home. Leaving it the way it is doesn't affect the performance or sound quality of this type of audio component. The only thing that gets affected is the atheistic appeal of the driver. This can be a problem to you if you have removed the speaker grill from the enclosure box and have placed it on display to show off.
1) Don't play any music on your stereo system. This is because you don't want the cone to be moving when you are repairing the tweeter, as it delicate and can get damaged.
2) Locate precisely the location where the dent is on the dust cap of the tweeter.
3) Connect your vacuum cleaner to your wall socket and switch it on. If it has a adjustable setting to control the suction power, put it in the lowest possible position. Since too much suction can rip of the dome.
4) Attach the plastic nozzle onto end of the vacuum cleaner pipe. Position the end of the plastic nozzle directly onto the dented area. The hoover will suck up the crushed in dent and push it outwards repairing it for you.
