How To Install Cooling Fans On Car Amplifier

A car amplifier is connected to your car subwoofer to provide that extra power that the headunit can't supply. If you are cranking your car audio system to its full potential on a daily basis, the electrical components will generate heat more quickly. This can possibly lead to your car amp to suffer from overheating issues. Some manufactures provide a internal overheating protection circuit, which protects the internals from getting damaged. Overheating can become more of an problem in hotter regions and can reduce the lifespan of the amp. To help keep your car amplifier run cooler, you can install cooling fans to blow cold air directly onto the heatsink.

1) Get hold of a spare computer fan. Computer fans are designed to run at 12 volts, making it the perfect match for the car battery voltage. The bigger the fan the better because it can provide airflow more efficiently.

2) You will need to mount the computer fan onto the heatsink. The best way would be to use strong double sided tape around the edges on the fan to stick it onto the top of the amp. You could use screws, however it will leave permanent marks on the car amp.

3) Connect the red positive and black negative wires, with the wires of the same color connected to the amplifier. This will provide a constant power to the cooling fan and will power it on when you turn on your ignition depending on your wiring configuration.
