The original Xbox console has a cooling fan placed right at the back of the console to remove the hot air that is generated inside from the processor and graphics chip. Most consoles are fairly dusty simply because of there age and the fans performance get impacted from this. The dust and dirt trapped inside the computer fan can cause airflow problems resulting in the console shutting down because its overheating too quickly. You can clean the cooling fan on your Xbox console without opening the console. Not only will it run more cooler, it will also make the fan less noisy and quieter. Please don't use any cleaning solutions as this is unnecessary and could lead to problems later on with the PCB.
1) Turn off the console so the fan stops spinning and comes to a standstill.
2) Get a small brush and try to get into the air vents and brush off the dust on the plastic fins.
3) Use a household vacuum to suck out the dust.
