How To Clean GameBoy Advance Game Cartridge Slot

Games for the Gameboy are stored onto rectangular sized cartridges. Inside the actual cartridge, there is a small micro chip that contains the game files. You will see small metal pins at the bottom of the game cartridge. These pins connect with the metal contacts found inside the cartridge slot on your Gameboy handheld console. If you keep swapping out the cartridges daily, dust and dirt will transfer onto the metal contacts inside the slot. If the metal contacts inside the slot become dirty or dusty, they will not have proper conductivity with the cartridge. This can cause problems such as games not to load or freeze during gameplay.

1) Switch off the Gameboy advance console. You don't want to be cleaning the slot when power is still going to it because it can cause an electrical short.

2) Pull out the game cartridge from the consoles slot. Look inside the slot, you will see a socket which the cartridge connects directly into.

3) Obtain a can of compressed air. You can purchase this from all good leading computer retailers. Attach the straw onto the can and point the end of the straw into the cartridge socket. Then press the button on the can to blast out air. The air will force off any dirt or dust that inside the slot.

4) You can also clean the actual Gameboy game cartridge. Obtain a dry cotton bud, and gently go over the metal pins upwards and downwards. Don't use any cleaning solutions because it will corrode the metal contacts and damage them!
