If your PS2 console is not powering on and you have checked the fuse in the mains plug, then the internal fuse is most likely blown out. The internal fuse is mounted directly onto the power board, also known as the PSU. This fuse protects the PSU from getting damaged if a short circuit occurs during console operation. The type of fuse that is used is a 3.15 amp small glass fuse. If you find out that the current fuse is blown out, please replace it will the same amps fuse. If you don't, the fuse will serve no purpose and won't protect the PSU in the future. The instructions only apply to the fat bulky versions of the PS2 consoles, not the slimline models.
1) Remove all cables that are plugged into the back of the PlayStation 2 console. Leave your PS2 console powered off for at least 1 hour. This is because there is still electrical charge inside the capacitors and you can get shocked when handling the power board.
2) Turn the console upside, you will find around 8 plastic and rubber tabs, with screws underneath them. Using a 'Philips' head screwdriver, remove all screws and place them into a container.
3) Then flip the console the other way round and push off the top of the PS2. The top part will then detach from the bottom half of the console. When it does place it towards the right hand side. Be carefully that you don't damage the ribbon cable that connects the power/reset buttons onto the mainboard.
4) Look at the top left hand corner of the console. You will see a fuse holder, holding a small glass fuse. Remove the fuse from the holder, hold it up in a well lit location and see if the wire is snapped. If it appears snapped or even burned, then the fuse is burnt out and needs replacing.
5) Build your PS2 back together following the instructions in reverse order and power on your PS2 to see if it switches on successfully.
