CB radios are used for two way radio communication. This means that they have the ability to receive and transmit, unlike a radio scanner device. If you have a CB radio that receives but doesn't transmit, it means you can only use it as a listen device. There are many solutions that you can use to help you resolve this problem.
1) Check that you have connected your antenna properly to the CB radio. Look at the back of the rig and the base antenna, to check if the 'Pl-259' connector is plugged in properly. Ensure that it is fully pushed in all the way and the metal screw ring is tight.
2) Check if the microphone connector is plugged in properly.
If the microphone connector is loose, it will not connect with the
metal pins on the socket. This will create a bad connection and will not
pick up the signal when you key your mic. So ensure that is it pushed
in all the way and the ring around it is also screwed tight.
3) The microphone you are using could be faulty. Overtime, the keying button can become worn out, due to constant use daily.
If this button is broken, the the CB radio will not pick up when you
want to speak. So if you have a spare CB radio that supports the same
pinout, test it on that to see if it works or not.
4) The output final transistor inside the radio could be blown out. This can happen if the SWR reading is too high. This can cause the power sent out to the antenna to go back into the radio and blow the output transistor. So open up your rig and locate the output transistor, it is a black square thing with three metal pins, mounted on a metal heat sink. Replace it will a similar kind and see if the problem is solved.
