If you have just recently installed your new graphics card for use with your VGA monitor, you can purchase a DVI male to female VGA adapter. There are two DVI ports on both ATI and Nvidia branded graphics cards. There is DVI-D which only outputs a digital signal and DVI-I that outputs both analog and digital signals. Make sure you purchase an adapter that fits into a DVI-I socket. This is because that socket can convert the digital signal into an analog signal to make it appropriate for the PC monitor to recognize. This adapter will convert the DVI pin-out into a compatible VGA socket. It can be easily purchased through Amazon or Ebay for not much.
1) Look at the back of your PC tower. Look for the DVI-I port on the graphics card. It will look exactly like the other DVI-D port, however it will have four small pins around each corner of the flat pin at the end.
2) Insert the DVI adapter into the DVI-I socket on the back of the video card.
3) Connect the VGA patch cable to the VGA socket on the adapter.
4) Connect the other end of the VGA cable into the VGA socket on the computer monitor.
5) Select your PC monitor to display through the VGA port by selecting the analog option. If you have no display or signal issues check for any loose connections.
