How To Fix a Peaky Subwoofer Box

Sometimes a subwoofer enclosure box can sound very peaky at certain frequencies in a car's trunk. This is quite common with ported and rare with sealed. Sealed boxes have a flat curve, vented have a high curve at a certain point and then drop off depending on port tuning. If you are wanting to reduce the peakyness on your subwoofer box you can add polyfill stuffing. This will dampen the sound waves inside and will make it sound more natural to blend in with the rest of your music.

1) Remove the screws from the subwoofer mounting surround.

2) Pop the driver out and eject the push terminals to remove the two speaker wires that are connected.

3) Rip off some polyfil from the roll. Then spray some carpet glue inside the box on the MDF. Or you could just stuff it in if you prefer the untidy look.

4) Stick the white stuffing inside were the glue has just been sprayed. Pat it down with your hand firmly to ensure that it securely sticks. Make sure you cover all areas inside the box.
