All Philips portable DVD players will come will a region lock from the factory. This will prevent you watching movies that are from a different region to the wrong region you have bought the DVD player from. This means you can't watch movies from different parts of the world, without doing a simple modification to the internal settings. The way to get around this problem is to change the region of your Philips DVD player through a special procedure. This will then transform it to read in a dual multi region format, allowing all types of discs to be played. This method has been tested on a wide range of different models including the PD9012/37.
1) Remove the movie disc from your DVD player and power it on. A screen with a blue background will appear.
2) Using the supplied remote control, use the directional buttons to enter: 'Up' 'Down' Up' Down' 'Up' 'Up' 'Down'.
3) A message will appear saying what the current region is set at. For example 'Region 1'. Use the directional arrows on the remote control to go through the different regions available. Choose the same region the DVD movie is recorded in and press 'OK' to save the changes.
