You can use your psp handeheld console as a ps3 controller for certain games, but mainly with the XMB and internet browser features. All buttons including the d pad will be fully functional just like an actual dualshock 3 controller. However, the only different would be that there is only one analog stick and there is no vibration feedback. I have tested this on the PSP 3000 an go models and works really great.
1) On your PSP go to Settings > Network Settings > Infrastructure Mode > New Connection > Enter Manual.
2) Go to SSID and name your new connection as 'Connecting PSP To PS3 as Controller'.
3) Enter a password of your choice. Now over to the PlayStation 3.
4) Go to Settings > Network Settings > Remote Play Connection.
5) Enter the SSID name you just created earlier on and your own customer security code. This will authorize both consoles to connect with each other and provide a successful wireless connection.
