If you are unsure with how to tell if the RCA cables you are using are going bad, today you will learn how to identify it and the common signs to it. First of all, yes RCA cables can go bad just like with any other cabling. They send the music sound from the stereo and feed the signal into the input of the car amplifier. For any reason, if you notice any buzzing, humming or whine when driving your car, its most likely a damaged pair and the car amp rca's are shorting out. Find out below to check if the RCA leads your using in your system are faulty or damaged.
1) Get a multimeter and connect the red and black probes.
2) To test the RCA cables, place the negative probe onto the outer ring on the plug and do the same for the other side. The meter will read out the same as if the probes are touching each other if the shielding is good and not corroded at all.
3) Do the same this time but for the center pin. If you check from the shield to the center pin, the meter should show open readings if the cables are in good condition.
