1) Try a different main plug. It’s very rare that
the socket that is providing power to the phones goes out but it could, so try
another mains socket. If this fixes the not charging problem, you might need to
flick the switch back up on the fuse breaker.
2) Try a different Nokia charger. The plug that
goes into the Nokia 8800 or the wiring inside could become loose, poor solder
connections etc. Test with a similar charger to see if it makes a difference at
all.
3) Clean the charging port. This is where the
phone charger plugs into on the bottom of the phone. If this is clogged with
dirt from your pocket, then it will cause a bad electrical connection. What you
need to do is clean it with a cotton bud and try again.
4) If that doesn't work, you may need to replace
the battery. The battery can become faulty; a common sign is the phone only
works when plugged in. When the charger is switched off, if the phones goes off
at the same time the battery needs replacing. The type of battery that is compatible
with the Nokia 8800 is BL-5X. Watch out on eBay, there are many fakes about,
think twice about buying batteries that are $2-3 they must be fake. Fake don't
last as long and could blow up damaging your device.
5) The charging port will need replacing. Even if
you have cleaned it just now, years of plugging and unplugging everyday
will wear out the metal connectors inside the port. Great thing about old Nokia
phones is the charging ports are easy to replace simply remove from it from the
housing and place then new one in. Unlike iphones and Samsung phones where you must
solder them in. Ports can be purchased on Ebay for a few dollars.
