Connecting a car subwoofer to your computer, to add a little extra bass can be done. To make this happen, you will need the following things:
*A spare computer power supply (You are going to use this to power your car amplifier)
*A car amp (You need this to power your car subwoofer)
*A car subwoofer
*A car amp wiring kit
*A rca leads, with a 3.5mm hack on the other end
*A computer or a laptop, with a decent sound card
Instruction on how to hook every thing up:
1)Your computer sound card doesn't have a built in amplifier to produce loud sound, which is required for a car subwoofer, so you will need to use a car amplifier. You will need to connect your car amplifier, to a computer power supply, so there is a blog post below, that shows you how:
How To Connect a Car Amplifier, using a computer PSU
2)Once you have connected your car amplifier to a computer power supply and the amp turns on and operates fine, then insert the RCA leads, into the RCA inputs on the amp itself. Then insert the other end of the lead into a computer sound card, with a subwoofer output. On a sound card, a subwoofer output is coloured yellow, so insert it into the yellow jack on the sound card.
3)Once you have made the connections, your car amplifier can now receive the audio output signal from the computer sound card and amplify that signal to make your car subwoofer operate.
4)Then wire your car subwoofer to your car amplifier, using speaker wire.
5)Once you have carried out steps 1-4 you have completed the procedure for connecting car subwoofer to your computer.
