How To Fix a Car Head Unit That Cuts Out At High Volume Levels


If you notice that when you increase the volume level on the car head unit to a loud level, if the dashboard lights are dimming, when the bass hits, then get the car battery and alternator checked out. The car battery and alternator can be bad and cause this sort of problem. If you got them checked out and they are not faulty, below are some handy  troubleshooting tips to resolve this car audio problem:

1)If your car head unit that you have fitted inside your car cuts out at high volume levels, then there could be a problem with your wiring. So remove it from the car dashboard, and inspect any loose wiring connection on the wiring harness. Most likely the speaker wires are touching each other or they could be connected with the wrong polarity, or the power wire or ground wire is loose. If any them type of wires are loose, it can cause the head unit to power itself off, this is to prevent damaged occurring inside it or power failure. So make sure the wires that make them connections are secured.

2)Make sure the car head unit is securely placed into the car's dashboard, you can secure it by using a cage, it will hold it tight and will prevent it from moving. This can stop it to cut out because when you crank up the volume without a cage, the car head unit will be jumping up and down because of the bass vibrations, from the speakers. This can move the power wires or speaker wires, causing them to disconnect and connect, making it cut out. Applying a cage to the car's head unit dashboard slot will prevent things like that to happen.

3)If the wires are secure and are correctly wired and you have secured the car head unit using a cage, if the problem continues, tweak down the bass and treble settings that are found in the car head units equalizer settings. Increasing it to high can cause clipping, this will also increase overheating and make the head unit shut down eventually. Tweaking them down will reduce a clipping signal being sent to the speaker and make the head unit run much more efficiently, which means it will run cooler.
