As smartphones are getting more compact so are sim cards. First generation sim cards are more of a rectangular shape than a square. If you are trying to use a normal sim card into a smartphone with a micro slot like the iphone 4s it won't fit. You can modify it and cut it down to size to make it compatible without having to use a replacement of the correct size.
1) You will require a micro sim to use as a template to cut around.
2) Place the micro sim around the regular sim card.
3) Get a black marker pen and draw around it.
4) Get a pair of scissors or a sharp blade and carefully go around the outline you have just made.
5) Get some sandpaper to smooth down the rough corners and edges. There you have it!
