Can i power my car subwoofer from my head unit?

Can i power my car subwoofer directly to car head unit for output power, is it possible?

Well you can power your subwoofer using your car head unit to produce output power, but it will not maximise the full potential of your subwoofer. The reason why is because most car head units produce an maximum of 25 watts rms, which is not ideal for powering your car sub. Car subwoofers usually needs above a 100 watts rms to operate and function properly. Using your car radio to power it would under power your sub and it will output below the recommended rms wattage for, doing so will cause serious damage to it.

Another reason why you should not power a subwoofer directly to a car stereo is because it does not have include a low pass filter. A low pass is used in car audio amplifier, to filter out the high sounding frequencies and only send bass frequencies below 100 hz to a subwoofer. If you run a subwoofer from a car head unit, it will not send the correct bass notes and will make your sub sound like a normal speaker. So i recommend you don't use your car stereo to power your car subwoofer because its not appropriate.
