If you want to hook up a car subwoofer to your car audio setup for extra bass and don't have an external amplifier, you can still make a sub work without an amp. Wiring a car subwoofer without an amplifier to power it will not provide it to its full sounding output potential. But its a perfect idea if you are not after crazy bass, but just add a little extra thump to your vehicle. Today, in this article you will learn how to wire a subwoofer without an amp.
1) Remove your car stereo from the slot.
2) Looking at the back, find the wiring harness plug. Disconnect the rear speaker channels.
3) Run a long subwoofer cable right from the back to the front.
4) Bridge the speaker wire running from the car subwoofer to the right and left channels on the rear speaker output. So connect one wire to the negative on the left side and connect the positive to the right. This will make the headunit more power full to drive the subwoofer, since you are adding two channels rms power into one. So you get around 40 watts rms thrown at it which is not bad.
5) Refit the car stereo. Since you have wired it up in such a way, you can control the bass level by using the fader control on the rear channel.
