Some people claim that you can also wire you car amplifier ground to a car battery. Well yes that is true but you are more likely to pick up static buzzing and humming noises from your car's electrics system. A car amplifier needs a ground to operate correctly. In this guide today i will explain how you can ground a car audio system just like a professional!
1) In your car amp's wiring kit it should include a separate ground wire as well as you other wires. The reason why i said that is because you are going to use that wire to connect your amp to your car's ground. If your wiring kit does not come with a ground cable then you can buy some 10 gauge wire instead its cheaper then buying another amp wiring kit.
2)Get access to your car amp and look on both sides of the amplifier itself. Looking to spot a terminal that is used to insert the ground wire in. Once you have found it open up the terminal using a screwdriver and insert the wire in nice and carefully, making sure all the braid is in the hole. Tighten back the screw in its original state.
3)Remove your car's carpets and see if you can find any bare metal from you car's bodywork. Never bolt your ground to a seat belt bolt etc.... This only results in a bad ground connection, therefore resulting in your car amp not turning on. Once you have found the perfect grounding location, using a screwdriver or sandpaper remove the excess paint that is on the car's metal. This is to make sure you car amplifier gets a nice steady ground to operate properly as it should.4)Place the ground terminal on the car's bare metal by either screwing it into the bodywork or bolting it securely, which ever you think is the best method.
5)That is it the process of you grounding you car amplifier is complete. Power on your car radio and see if you amp has turned on. Hopefully there should people no problems at all with the install. If your amp does not automatically power on then i suggest you check your grounding loop and make sure you remote wire is connected to car radio to the amp.
